Webinar: Life Cycle Assessment for Waste Management
BLUEISLANDS is organizing another webinar, on LCA, set on 24 May 2018, at 14.30 Brussels time.
Around 3 billion tonnes of waste are generated in the EU each year – over 6 tonnes for every European citizen. This has a huge impact on the environment, causing
pollution and greenhouse gases emissions that contribute to climate change. Good waste management can significantly reduce these impacts, and Life Cycle Thinking and Assessment can help policy makers choose the best environmental options.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a technique for assessing the potential environmental aspects of a product or a service throughout its entire Life Cycle: from the extraction of raw materials to the final disposal; also referred to as from cradle to grave. It can be used to support decision-making in the area of waste management and to identify the best environmental options. It can help policy makers understand the benefits and trade-offs they have to face when making decisions on waste management strategies.
The webinar will:
- Present the know-how and fundamental notions that govern Life Cycle Assessment;
- Tackle the steps involved in LCA through examples linked to key issues faced by tourism development in insular context.
The speaker will be Melissa Cornelus, LCA and Ecodesign Project Manager, EVEA territories.
